Tarbert castle has had minor repairs during the last decade, enough to keep the ivy from taking over the ruined keep that looks over Tarbert harbour and Loch Fyne, and also to ensure its stability is maintained.
During the last couple of years volunteers helped clear away trees and overgrown shrubbery to help make the castle grounds more visible and to cover the stone walls to protect them while the grass and earth recover them until perhaps there is enough money available to do a full restoration on the walls and tower remains that circumnavigate the castle keep.
Award
A recent award, thought to be several million pounds is to be spent on restoring the castle and its keep which is closely associated with Robert the Bruce and plays a part in Kintyre's rich and diverse history.
Scaffolding
The castle keep is currently enveloped in scaffolding, for how long it is uncertain.
