Lochgilphead

Lochgilphead | About The Town
Lochgilphead, with a population of around 2500 and increasing is one of the largest settlements around Loch Fyne, but is still small in comparison to Oban (Argyll north) or Campbeltown (south Kintyre). Lochgilphead is the home of the headquarters of Argyll & Bute Council, and has just had a brand new secondary school built with excellent facilities for local school pupils.
Lochgilphead has an attractive front green looking southwards along Loch Fyne to Ardrishaig, with a small putting green and children's play park facilities, also with public toilets there. A monument also stands proud at the bottom of the high street.
The high street has a decent selection of shops with both Tesco Express and Coop Foodstore offering daily food, there is a filling station and even a large Jewson for all those diy and building enthusiasts, suiting home builders and renovators. There are three banks, both the Clydesdale, Bank Of Scotland and LLoyds TSB here, the second of which has a single external cash point. There are many places to eat out and to stay within Lochgilphead.
Lochgilphead has a reasonable 9 hole golf course, and also has a league football team.
Walking and cycling are popular activities here, with a woodland walk at Kilmory Castle, headquarters of Argyll and Bute Council.
