Tarbert | About The Picturesque Village

Tarbert, the village of, known in Gaelic as 'An Tairbeart' translated to english means 'isthmus', is notable for its connection with fishing and still has a working fishing fleet today. The harbour is natural and features a stone wall designed and built by Thomas Telford which extends around a large part of the inner harbour where you can park and admire the harbour view.

The village itself is centered around the harbour, from which it also earns its livelyhood, with hotels and restaurants and shops all snugly located around the harbour.

Tarbert is a sheltered place, with excellent facilities and is perfect for overnight accommodation and long stays for those who wish to catch ferries to Arran or Islay, or whom wish to our Kintyre and Argyll.

Three important and well recognised events are held in the village, the Scottish Series Yacht Race organised by Clyde Cruising Club, a large sailing regatta with racing on Loch Fyne itself, and two slightly smaller but nonetheless popular Seafood Festival and Music Festival.
